We’ll be alone, together

(Unfitting music time!   soundcloud.com/imchanel/anothe…   listen to it, you can press shift and L to put it on repeat or just leave it and see where soundcloud takes you.)

“It’s that weird girl.” Someone whispered behind you, “I heard that she pushed Lili off of the roof and made it look like she fell.” Another said in a hushed voice, but still loud enough or you to hear.

You chuckled, all people did in this school was spread rumours. Most made almost no sense, for example, how could you have pushed poor Lili Zwingli off of the roof when you were not even at school on the day of such an accident? Still people continued to blame you for her death, they blamed you for everything that went wrong. Like a witch in the 17th century.
Some of the girls who wore stripper heels to school and batted fake eyelashes that looked as thick as peacock feathers even found ways to blame you for their phones breaking. Saying you had snuck things out of their lockers and then torn them apart.
Disregarding how predictable everyone here was there was one thing you didn’t understand, why you? Why was it you that everyone had agreed to use as an excuse, weren’t you like any other simple minded girl that attended this school?

“How could I have pushed her if I wasn’t in school at any time during that day genius?” You stated turning to face whoever was behind you, as you turned the two girls, they were the exact type of person you were thinking about earlier. Fake .
Both of them looked at you as if you had just cursed them and walked away as if you hadn’t just asked them a question. Their skirts were hiked up to the beginning of their *cough* lower assets *cough*. It was strange how the plaid uniform was made to make sure students (Girls in particular) wouldn’t wear clothes deemed ‘too revealing’, but they allowed them to roll skirts up to the point of no return.
“Ouch! Hey can you look where you-“ A female voice shouted at you as you accidently collided into her, then she got a glimpse of who it was. “Sorry Natalya.” You said thinking of how you could get out of this mess. Natalya was nice... or ok, well that’s mainly because she was one of the only people who would engage in ‘casual conversation’ with you, but then again she could get clingy, very clingy.

“____!” she shouted, trying to sound enthusiastic but coming off in a serious way, “Do you want to come trick-or-treating with me tomorrow?” Natalya asked trying to smile a sincere smile, but it made you feel uneasy. Oh yeah, it was Halloween tomorrow, the day of sluts and free sweets, of course you weren’t planning anything but that didn’t mean you wanted to go.

“Isn’t trick-or-treating for little kids?” you cocked an eyebrow then gave her a nervous but cute smile. Those actions conflicted with your personality completely, but you didn’t really trust her, even If she was...ok. You needed her to underestimate you, like everyone else, to not know what you were capable of, to not know how much smarter than her you were.

“Please, I have the perfect dress for you!” she begged

“Oh well...” you didn’t want to say yes, but she was always so...nice to you, even if it did come off in a creepy way. “Okay.” You deadpanned, getting tired of keeping up the ‘friendly’ act.

“Great, the dress is in your locker. Meet me outside of the school at 8pm!” Again Natalya smiled her dishevelling smile and left.

‘How did she get into my locker?’ you though, pondering in this for at least fifteen minutes while walking before coming to the conclusion that she was one freaky bitch that you didn’t want to mess with.
Since it was the end of the school day, and a Friday, the school would be closing earlier, but because of your all of your thinking you forgot this and headed towards the art room.

You knocked on the green door when you came to it, it gently opened but only a tiny bit. You peeked inside the room to find a guy, he was sitting there painting, Ms Radshaw, the art teacher wasn’t there. Strange. She was always here.

“Uuh is Ms Radsh-”

“She’s not here, it’s Friday did you forget silly~!” A playful voice chimed, it was whoever was painting.

“Oh yeah, I’ll be leaving then...” you were about to turn and leave but he asked a question, stopping you.

“What do you think the most beautiful girl in the world would look like?” He asked turning on his stool and facing you, though his eyes were still closed. You walked closer to him and his painting. It had barely been worked on from the looks of it, he must have started it only a minute ago.

“Well as they say... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” You stated monotonously walking closer to him. Why exactly hadn’t he jumped out of the window yet? Oh yeah his eyes are closed

“Yes but what do you think?” he asked again in his sing-song voice

“Well... I don’t know... you’re the artist so isn’t it meant to be your opinion?” more and more questions were being asked. You sat down next to him, and on closer inspection he was quite handsome himself. his hair was a strawberry blondish colour, something you didn’t see often and he had the strangest fang in the corner of his wide smile. You couldn’t see his eyes because there were closed, it seemed like he was too busy talking to remember to open them.

“Yes but I’d also like the opinion of a-” As soon as he opened his eyes he stopped talking. The boy looked away from you, you sighed not noticing the faint red painted on his cheeks.

“Ok, ok I get it, you didn’t know I was the weird girl I’ll leave now.” You scoffed standing up and walking towards the door.

“N-no! Stay!” He called from behind you.

You turned to him and said a simple “Why should I?” before heading out of the door and away from this guy whoever he was.  He got up and ran after you.
The school block you were in was quite big and had many twisting and turning corridors within it. Finally after running down many flights of stairs and corridors you came to the front door of the building, he reached it soon after you.

“W-why isn’t it opening!” you shouted only now realising how empty the hallways were, usually at least a few people would stay afterschool until it officially closed, but today, on Friday as soon as the last lesson was over the school was closed. Being the realistic pessimist you were, you stopped trying to open the door, accepting that is was locked and wouldn’t magically open after rattling the handle for a few minutes.

“Great I’m stuck here for a weekend...With you.” You scoffed and turned to the boy you had met earlier, who was now panting.

“Well at least there are two of us. My name’s Vladimir~!” he held out his hand, still managing to introduce himself in a cheerful tone despite the fact that he was out of breath.

“(name) (surname)” you stated monotonously looking him right in the eyes. Ignoring the hand that was reaching towards you.

“Why so formal?” Vladimir laughed his smile growing larger, as he tipped his head to the side you noticed that the small top hat he wore wasn’t falling off. How strange.

“Well Vladimir, that’s because our relationship will be formal and nothing other than that.” You deadpanned, mainly acting like this because he hadn’t given you one of the best first impressions.

“Aww come on (name) we’ll be great friends! Right~?” he was so enthusiastic it almost made you want to puke. You began to walk back up the stairs as he talked about you two would be ‘friends’, purposely avoiding his question.

“Hey! Where’re you going?” he asked looking up at your retreating figure a small frown replacing his smile.

“Back to the art room.” You said continuing to make your way up the stairs.

“Wait for me!” he said in the same cheery tone, boy was he gonna get annoying.

The two of you went back to the art room where he continued to paint ‘the most beautiful girl in  the world’ and you did all you could to try and get at least one bar on your phone, sadly it didn’t work.

“So we really will have to stay here all weekend huh.” Vladimir sighed turning to face you on his stool. You walked towards where the canvases were and placed one on an easel, dragging a stool over with you. You sat in the stool and nodded in response, dipping your brush in the small pots of acrylic paint and then brushing the canvas.

“Watcha painting (name)~.” Vladimir chimed looking over your shoulder, maybe you shouldn’t have sat so close to him.

“I don’t know.” You said focusing on the painting, it was a lie, you knew but just wanted him to shut up.

“How can you not know?!” he asked cocking an eyebrow, turning back to his painting

“The very same way I don’t know where you’re from.” You said matter-of-factly

“Well now you do~.” He chirped

“No I-” you were cut off by Vladimir, growing more annoyed with each minute

“I’m from Romania.” He smiled and turned to you, but you were too busy painting to notice

“That’s good to know Vlad...imir.” Crap, you nearly called him Vlad, now he’s going to think you’re friends.

He looked at you like you’d just said he who shall not be named, “I knew you’d warm up to me (name)” The giddy expression he had earlier returned.

“No, I just...”  Dammit, you were stuck. “I was too lazy to say your whole name.” You lied, but to be honest you had no idea why you had called him Vlad.

“That’s not a very good excuse (name).” Vladimir said turning back to his canvas, he had overestimated you, little did he know you were trying to make sure that he underestimated you. The two of you didn’t say anything for a few moments after that.
“Hey (name)!” He called, even though you were right next to him.

“Yes.” You answered sternly, turning to face him. He looked at you for a second then turned back to his painting.

“Nothing~.” he said in a playful tone continuing to paint... was he trying to piss you off? Then it hit you, like a tennis racket, no like a chair, no like a brick wall. You were going to be locked in school for two whole days so what would you eat? Well you hadn’t eaten your lunch today, because for some reason you had decided to pack one this morning. But it wasn’t enough to last two days.

“Vladimir... do you have any food?”  you asked “Because I didn’t eat lunch today  we’re gonna need food.”

“Oh don’t worry about that” Vladimir stood from his stool and motioned for you to follow him. He walked to the doorway, and was surprised to see you still sitting in the chair, “come on!” he chirped again gesturing to follow him. Sighing you stood and let him lead the way, he led you down to the ‘food tech room’, why did I put that in apostrophes? Because it was basically a kitchen, a kitchen with a fancy name.

“People always leave things in the fridge here, so we could cook something up~.” He said heading toward the large fridge, opening it then pulling out different foods.

“There’s a cabbage, peppers, some leeks, potatoes, onions and butter.” Vladimir counted out loud, setting each item on the nearby counter as he did so.

“Great, we literately can’t make anything other than a salad with these.” You scoffed grabbing a saucepan for some strange reason.

“Aaah that’s where you’re wrong my dear (name)~.” He cooed pointing a finger in the air “With this we can make Ciorbă de praz.”

“Wait... Don’t tell me that’s some kind of Romanian dish.” You gave him a glare before he nodded, confirming your accusation.

“It’s basically leek soup.” He grabbed your hand (to your dismay) and pulled you and your saucepan towards one of the stoves. Now first we need to wash the vegetables.” Vladimir washed the food and went back to you, and your saucepan. “all we need to do is melt the butter then add the chopped vegetables!” he grinned but the vegetables weren’t chopped.

“I guess you want me to chop them then.” You gave a nervous smile then grasped a large knife and chopping board beginning to chop the veggies.

“Yeah.” He said as you continued to chop, then he began to heat the butter in the pan... Wow, you were actually co-operating with someone for once, you didn’t know if you should’ve taken a picture right then or not, because this was a first.

“Vladimir...” You said when you had finished peeling and chopping the potatoes, He gave a faint “hmm?”

“I haven’t seen you around school before. Are you new?” You asked grabbing an onion and beginning to peel it.

“Nope~.” He said in that immature tone of his. “I’ve been here for two years... It’s just.” He stopped and sighed something was telling you that he was feeling upset, but his child- like tone hid it well.
“Not many people warmed up to me I guess,” Vladimir frowned “ And I guess the fact that I like magic made people shy away from me.” You knew what he meant, people thought he was strange and wanted nothing to do with him.

“Magic? That sounds interesting!” you tried to say enthusiastically but sadly failing. Then you grabbed another onion and started chopping.

“Yeah, I used to be in a magic club when I was in middle school with my two best friends but...” Again you could sense that his happy demeanour was a façade “We went to different high schools so I never saw them again.”
You would have asked ‘why didn’t you keep in touch?’ but didn’t want to upset the Romanian. “Oh.” You said dimly, but somehow you felt it made the conversation even more awkward.

“But now I have one great friend, who I’m really happy to know!” Happy Vladimir was back.

“Oh who?” you asked keeping the question as short as possible.

“You of course!” Yeah... Happy a Vladimir was definitely back.

“Shit!” Your finger was now bleeding, great. Other than that had he forgotten the past hour, did he forget you saying ‘Our relationship will be formal and nothing more than formal.’

“what happened!” Almost in an instant he was right behind you. “Jeez (name) I thought it was something serious.”

“It is serious!... Well it is to me.” You exclaimed keeping your hand and the vegetables you were chopping separate, luckily only a little bit of the chopped onion was stained with your blood. Despite this you threw the onion away.

“Well, you’re not just gonna leave it are you?” Vladimir asked looking slightly annoyed, you nodded and said “Whats so bad about leaving it, it’s not bleeding or anything.”

He just grabbed your hand pulling you out of the ‘food tech room’. You thought about asking where he was taking you but decided against it, because he probably wouldn’t give you a straight answer anyway.

“Oh the Infirmary.” You said in a unenthusiastic tone and looked over to the many cabinets filled with unnecessary amounts of different types of bandages and sterilisers.

“You’re hurt (name).” Vladimir looked straight into your eyes not breaking the stare for a few moments. He sat you down and began to grab things from the cabinets, then started to tend to the deep cut on your finger. “Why don’t you just do some of your magic to heal my finger?” you teased “You could even get us out of here with some of that magic!”

“I haven’t cast a spell in a long time, it probably wouldn’t work. And anyway, how would I be able to without a spell book?”

Was he actually serious about that whole magic thing, you thought it was a joke but apparently it wasn’t. “O-oh, sorry.” Managing not to giggle you stuttered nervously.

Vladimir looked calmer than usual, you thought it suited him. “I know, you think I’m really weird now don’t you?”

“No... I just didn’t think you were serious about the whole magic thing.” You smiled “But at least now I can say I have a magical friend right.” At the realisation if what you just said you covered your mouth. A huge grin replaced the calm look he had earlier “I knew it!” he laughed

“What!” you exclaimed in an annoyed tone

“That we would be friends!” he Grinned and patted your hand. “There all better~” he said with a smile

“Whatever.” You brushed it off, wanting to change the subject “Shouldn’t we get back to what we were cooking...?” you asked feeling slightly agitated.

I’ll get back to the cooking, you go and rest in the art room.” Vlad assured

“But it just my f-“

“No buts (name), now go... shoo!~” you mentally groaned. Cheerful Vladimir was back.

With that you turned around and went back to the art room, As you entered you saw Vladimir’s painting, it was looking good but had only just been started. From all you could tell the girl had (eye colour) eyes.
You sat down on your stool and continued painting “This is gonna be one hell of a weekend.” You sighed and continued to paint for about another half hour until.

“(Name)~” an all too familiar voice chirped, “Dinner’s ready!~” oh its him my ‘friend’. Did you consider him a friend... not really, but you did see him as a nice person.

“Thanks for making it Vlad...imir.” He grinned when he heard the abbreviation.

“No problem! Hope you like it!” he seemed really happy. A bowl of leek soup (eew) was handed to you. You pulled the spoon out of the soup in and began to eat.
Vladimir grabbed his stool and sat opposite you, “So (name)...”

“Yeah...” If he replied with nothing you swore you would have strangled him then and there.

“I’ve seen you around school before but...” His voice got quieter, you looked up and for a second you could have sworn you saw a shadow in the doorway.

“...I never see you with any of your friends.”

“Well that’s because I don’t really have any.” You looked back down to your bowl glumly

“I guess you don’t really take me as a friend then.” He said after slurping some of the soup.

“Not exactly. If it helps, I see you more like a person I’m alone with... If that makes any sense.” You sighed

“I’ve got it! We’ll be alone together!” he exclaimed giving you one of his signature smiles.

“I guess you can call it that!” you said, feeling a bit happier now that he wasn’t calling you friends.

Soon it got dark, you and Vlad...imir engaged in lots more awkward, mind-numbing conversation after that.

“Where should we sleep?” Vlad asked giving you a quizzical look.

“somewhere with a sofa.” You answered quickly

“Maybe-” He was cut off by your suggestion, but it didn’t annoy him, he was actually quite happy to see you talking more.

“The social studies room.” You suggested grabbing his hand and pulling him along with you. As you walked down the corridors, it actually led to you wondering why the power was still on even though the school was closed. But disregarded it, the lights being on was a good thing.

“Here, I’ll take the red one.” You said as you both entered the room. Sleeping on sofa wasn’t going to be very comfortable, but it would be better than the ground.

Vladimir lay on the lime green couch opposite you, and smiled before closing his eyes. You closed yours too, and after a while of just laying and thinking of the day so far was nearly whisked away by sleep but something, more like someone interrupted it.

“Hey (name)~” a calmer but still somewhat cheerful voice called

“What!” you answered angrily, you weren’t one to stay up late.

“You look cute when you’re sleeping.” As soon as he said this you went red, maybe even rivalling the couches colour. Feeling flustered you turned around on the couch, facing away from Vladimir, after that all you heard was a soft chuckle, and then you fell asleep.

You groaned, the lights were back on and it was morning, “Damn. It wasn’t a dream.” You sighed sitting up and looking around. Vlad wasn’t here. Strange, he must have been up in the art room. You stood and walked up to the art room “Mornin.” You managed to say although you felt extremely tried, “Good morning (name)~” you heard the Romanian chime.

“I see you’ve made progress.” You smiled pointing out his painting, which was now halfway complete. The girl had (Hair colour) hair but most of her facial features hadn’t been painted yet, that was different. Usually you paint the facial features before the hair, don’t you?

“Yeah, I’ve finally decided what the most beautiful girl in the world looks like.”

“Oh cool.”

“Yeah, I was inspired by a girl I me a few days ago.” He said sounding more serious all of a sudden. “But she doesn’t remember us meeting!” he exclaimed.

“Not at all?” you questioned dragging a stool next to the Romanian.

“Not even a single bit.” He frowned shaking his head, “She’s nice once you get to know her but can seem a little defensive sometimes, but still I really enjoy her company.”

“Hmm what’s her name, you don’t find many nice people in this school.” You looked to him, he was so focused on the painting. “She’s really pretty and doesn’t even know it, and she’s really smart but tries to hide it by playing dumb.”

“Yeah cool.” You liked seeing him so happy but this was actually starting to make you feel a bit... jealous, no way! Why on earth would you be jealous? “But Vlad what’s her name?” you asked again.

“I really want to be friends with her but she doesn’t want to.” He sighed looking to his lap. “I want to be more than friends. But she doesn’t know how I feel.”

You furrowed your brows, who was this amazing girl that had him so captivated?

“Oh.” You murmured, Vladimir turned to you

“But that doesn’t matter right now. (name) you really want to get out of here, right.”

“Right!” he looked you right in the eyes, and it was only now that you had realised what a beautiful shade of red they were.

“Then come with me, don’t forget your bag!” he picked up his bag pack and handed you your (favourite colour) satchel. Grabbing your hand he pulled you down the stairs when you got to the front door of the school building.

“Wow the door,” you deadpanned turning your head to face him.
He held the palm of his hand to the door for a few moments before pushing it, it just opened like that!

“W-wat , how but how did-?” you stuttered

“I haven’t forgotten all of my spells.” He chuckled sheepishly
The two of you left the school grounds happily, Vlad gazed at you the entire time, how could he have fallen in love so quickly?

“Damn! I forgot something in the art room,” he said stopping and turning about to run back into the school

“Wait!” you called after him, he stopped to face you before you left. “You didn’t say goodbye.”
“Oh well... Bye (name) I’ll see you at school” he smiled then out of the blue he leant down and kissed your cheek. Instantly you blushed violently looking down at your shoes because for some reason they had suddenly become extremely interesting to you.

“Bye Vlad...imir.” you managed to say without stuttering, then you turned on your heel and left. Still looking at the ground.

The weekend passed quickly and soon it was another school day. You were actually feeling quite happy to go to school, Vladimir was the only person you could confide in since you lived alone and didn’t see your family regularly. On arrival you saw many people crowding around you locker, ‘Oh so now they’re actually gonna to start lining up to make fun of me.’ You thought pushing through the crowd making your way to the locker.
‘What insult is written on my locker today?’ you mentally asked yourself. As soon as you saw what was on you locker your expression changed completely, it was a painting, a painting of you. It was Vladimir’s painting. You gawked at how detailed it was, picking it up and inspecting it further. On the back was a little note which read.

“Here’s a little gift for being my ‘alone together’ buddy. You said beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever met. Also I forgot to tell you that last Friday was my last day at this school ^^; but here’s my number! I’ll see you soon (name!)”

That Idiot.
